In the year 2000, Carolina crown performed their show “The Mask of Zorro”
Featuring rep exclusively from the movie the show is based on, the show is jam packed with memorable, singable melodies, all written by James Horner.
The show opens with none other than the opening title theme. This theme is reference throughout the show.
The first movement showcases the theme the most out of the 4 total movements. this movement also plays hints of their second Rep choice, “The Ride”.
Ending the movement with a big company front, the performs lead into the second movement of the show.
The second movement is Crowns Ballad. Featuring “Diego’s Goodbye”, a somber piece representing Zorro’s death within the movie. However, this show’s story has a different ending.
The Corps play this selection while forming almost a wall of sorts on the front sideline, as the entire hornline plays together
This movement segways into the third movement, featuring a sort of “mash-up” from “The Ride” and the show 4th selection “Stealing the Mask”. Ending with a big stand still to blast off into the fourth and final movement.
The fourth movement plays bit and pieces of all four selections. The players run and march all around the field, producing an exciting ending to an amazing show.
This show, and many other shows, have formed the signature Crown style. High energy, technical shows put on the field by show of the best performers around.
Crown has and will continue to always excite me with their amazing show concepts and brass playing abilities.
